A tooth that is stained, chipped, or colored but is otherwise healthy and strong doesn’t need to be removed and replaced with a denture or a crown, for you can get porcelain veneers to cover up the imperfections and make the tooth look natural and perfect again. Porcelain veneers are small and thin shells that are also tough and highly immune to stains, making them the perfect material for hiding flaws in damaged teeth. But these advantages are also why veneers cost per tooth can get really high.

How Much Do Veneers Cost Per Tooth?

If you don’t need a full mouth of veneers but rather just need to fix a few imperfect teeth, you may be wondering how much are veneers per tooth. A single porcelain veneer can cost a maximum of two thousand dollars for one tooth, inclusive of all other costs like the labor and the cosmetic dentist’s fees.

Compare this to other cosmetic dental procedures like resin tooth bonding which can cost a mere three hundred dollars, and you will be surprised to hear that getting porcelain veneers is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in the USA. More and more people are actually choosing to get porcelain veneers to change the look of their teeth, and sometimes others may cover perfectly healthy teeth with veneers just because they want their teeth to look longer or have a unique shape.

Why is the Cost of Veneers Per Tooth So High?

One reason why porcelain veneers can get very expensive is due to the relative scarcity of porcelain. Porcelain costs more too and can take time to personalize or make a special custom fit like what cosmetic dentists do when making veneers, for each veneer needs to fit the proportions of the tooth well to make it fit comfortably with the other teeth.

Another reason for the rather high cost is due to the high demand of veneers. Since an increasing number of people are looking forward to getting veneers, most cosmetic dentists can afford to raise their prices while still ensuring good results and professional service.

Where to Get Cheap Veneers

To get a good deal on porcelain dental veneers, the Fitnez blogsite recommends visiting the websites of dental sites to canvass the available prices and help you find a good bargain and get the best results.

You can also ask the opinion of your dentist on whether your teeth may benefit from getting veneers or not, and if he or she does not specialize in cosmetic dentistry, you can get a reference to one who does that your dentist personally knows. This way, you can be pretty sure of receiving good service and will likely be charged reasonably for porcelain whitening veneers that will help make your teeth look better and healthier.

Most people do not enjoy going to the dentist and getting a tooth pulled. It is sometimes a necessity for removal of a tooth, such as decay, discomfort or to make room for another tooth. Patients have to make adjustments and follow a certain regimen in order to feel better. Tooth extraction aftercare involves following doctor’s instruction to prevent a delay in recovery and to keep discomfort at a minimum.

Eating Guidelines

There is a possibility that the mouth will feel, sore, numb or swollen. Most patients are unable to eat anything but soft foods. It helps to eat foods like soup, jello, yogurt, ice cream, bread or grits. Other behaviors to avoid are sucking through straws, smoking, brushing or chewing solid foods for the next 48 hours. It also helps to chew on the side opposite of the extraction. Soft foods are the best choice for the next 24 to 48 hours after the procedure.

Tooth Extraction Pain Management

Some patients experience inflammation and pain. Over-the-counter pain medication can help with alleviating some of the pain and infection. Dentists can also prescribe a stronger pain medication if the nonprescription pain medicine is not working. Surgical extractions tend to be more painful than simple extractions. Placing an ice pack on the jaw of the extraction location can bring down swelling and prevent clotting. The ice numbs the area and limits the discomfort or pain.

Cleaning the Tooth Extraction Site

If the area is bleeding, then clean gauze can be inserted in the area of the missing tooth. The gauze should be put in the mouth immediately after having the tooth pulled. It keeps pressure on the area and absorbs the blood.

Another solution is rinsing the mouth with salt water. This method can prevent infection and swelling. The salt water rinses should be used 24 hours after having the extraction. They should be done after meals and before bed.

There are different ways to provide care to the area for a fast recovery. Getting better requires doing the small things like not brushing your teeth for 24 hours. The blood has to clot properly after the removal of the tooth. For example, the blood clot from removing a wisdom tooth eventually becomes gum and bone tissue.

It also helps to relax, wear comfortable clothing and not to do as much work the first couple days. However, patients should talk to their dentists about any concerns and follow tooth extraction aftercare instructions.

If you are trying to learn more about gingivitis, you might find that a lot of the information out there is hard to understand. Here we define gingivitis and take a look at some common symptoms as well as possible gingivitis causes, using non-technical language that is easy to follow.

What is Gingivitis?

Gingivitis is an inflammation of the gums caused by bacteria that can sometimes lead to tooth loss. Early intervention is important if you want to fix the problem and keep your teeth. If you catch the first signs of gingivitis, the prognosis is excellent. Proper dental care can completely reverse gingivitis in its early stages.

On the other hand, if you ignore gingivitis symptoms, it can progress into periodontitis. As the bacteria in the plaque spreads below your gums and into your tooth, it can eat away at the bone and gum tissue. This causes the tooth or teeth to loosen and eventually fall out and is the top reason for adult tooth loss.

Once it reaches this stage, there is little that can be done to save the teeth so it’s best not to let it reach that point in the beginning. To avoid tooth loss, it’s important to know the symptoms of gingivitis so you can get help right away.

Symptoms of Gingivitis

Here are some of the most common gingivitis symptoms. Keep in mind that sometimes the symptoms are very mild, especially in the early stages. Also, gingivitis doesn’t always affect every tooth, so if you notice these gingivitis signs only in some of your teeth, you should still mention it to your dentist.

Bleeding while brushing teeth. One of the most common gingivitis symptoms is bleeding when you brush your teeth. If this only happens once in a while, it could just be due to more vigorous brushing than usual. However, it happens all the time, it could be a very early sign of gingivitis and is definitely a reason to call your dentist.

Gums pull away from teeth and/or pockets form between your gums and teeth. Receding gums are often a sign of gingitivis. If you notice your gums starting to pull back from your teeth, seek dental care right away. If it gets so bad that pockets form, you might have acute gingivitis and you will probably need to have a deep cleaning procedure done to help minimize the damage to your teeth.

Gums look swollen or irritated. Red gums are often the first sign of gingivitis that people notice. If your gums feel tender or hurt when you touch them, be sure to make an appointment with your dentist.

Chronic bad breath (halitosis). Everyone has bad breath from time to time. If your breath is horrendous after eating roasted garlic, that’s normal. But if your breath is always bad, even shortly after brushing, something more sinister may be going on. Constantly having a bad taste in your mouth is another sign to watch out for. The bacteria that cause gingivitis can make your breath worse. It’s actually the smell of your teeth slowly rotting away from the inside so it’s a good idea to do something about it right away.

Teeth that move. Healthy teeth are rigid. If you have any teeth that can be wiggled even slightly, you could be in danger of developing gum disease. Another more subtle gingivitis symptom is a change in the alignment of your teeth or fit of dental devices.

Causes of Gingivitis

What causes gingivitis? Although the answer can be complex, plaque is the main cause of gingivitis. If this buildup is not properly cleaned and allowed to accumulate on the teeth, bacteria will thrive and eventually work their way up into the gums, the teeth, and finally the bone and root of the tooth. Therefore, improper cleaning is also one of the big causes of gingivitis.

Hormones can play a role as well. Conditions such as menopause and pregnancy can cause the gums to become more sensitive, increasing your susceptibility to mild gingivitis. This increased sensitivity can also happen on a smaller scale during menstruation.

Medical conditions that affect the immune system, such as cancer and HIV, make it easier for bacteria to multiply and enter the inside of the tooth. Some medications can also affect the gums as well. It’s a good idea to ask your doctor if any medications you are taking can cause gum disease, especially if you are already noticing signs of gingivitis.

Genetics play a role as well. If other people in your family, such as your parents or grandparents, have had gingivitis, you have an increased chance of developing this issue as well so you should be especially vigilant about tooth care.

Is Gingivitis Contagious?

All of this talk of bacteria may lead you to wonder, is gingivitis contagious? The simple answer is no, it is not. You cannot catch gingivitis from kissing or sharing food with someone who has gingivitis.

However, if you share the same lifestyle as a person with gingivitis, you are more likely to get it yourself. That is to say, if you and your partner both smoke and don’t floss, you might both end up with gingivitis despite it not being contagious. Also, due to the genetic component of gingivitis, it’s possible for family members to all have gingivitis but this does not mean it has spread from one person to another.

If you notice any of these gingivitis symptoms, contact your dentist right away to increase the chances of successful treatment.

Tongue scrapers are a useful dental hygiene tool that can help to ensure fresher breath and to help maintain better oral health. These items play an important role in daily care and tongue health for those that utilize them.

Tongue scrapers are built for a singular purpose and function. They are a dedicated piece of equipment which is meant to gently scrape off accumulations from the soft tissue of the tongue.

Put simply, the tongue is a central area where accumulations develop. As the person naturally goes through the process of taking in food and sleeping, they cause deposits of material to be built up on the surface of the soft tissue.

This is a natural occurrence and is nothing to be concerned about initially. However, these accumulations decay in the mouth and leave a bad smell, as well as making it so that the person is left more open to various kinds of disease that might be triggered by their presence.

Most people prefer to brush their tongue while they are brushing their teeth. It is a simple action, and it is easy enough to remember on the spot in this context.

However, simply brushing the soft tissue with a toothbrush might not be enough. The bristles of a toothbrush are meant for hard surfaces, not the porous surface of the tongue’s soft tissue.

Additionally, the toothbrush is directive with its bristles, and might not extend them enough to make a real difference in the size of the area that is covered during this time. As such, something else is needed in order to reach the potential coverage that may be needed to get off the accumulations and maintain a healthy tongue.

Likewise, the toothpaste and the residue that it leaves can actually coat the tongue with more buildup. While the initial brushing of the area surely will remove some of the buildup and ensure a cleaner feeling, the residue left by the toothpaste may find its way into the spaces of the soft tissue.

Therefore, tongue scrapers are able to supplement the person’s daily care routine in powerful ways. The best tongue scrapers are designed to have a square head with a lot of soft bristles, which are angled in such a way that they can be dragged across the soft tissue.

It is the purpose of these bristles to act as a mild abrasive, and to catch any elements that are removed from the area. The bristles are soft in nature, so as to not damage the area that they are coming into contact with.

All the person has to do is gently pull the tongue scraper down over the soft tissue anywhere that it is needed. A great amount of force is not necessary in order to get a good set of results.

Instead, the tongue scrapper gently removes buildups and drags them away with the bristles in action. Removing these buildups is a great way to ensure fresher breath, since a lot of bad breath comes from accumulations decaying in the mouth. The white stuff on tongue that builds up can be removed over time using these tools. Likewise, if you have a yellow tongue coating, tongue scrapers should be able to keep everything under control.

An American Fork dentist states that the removal of these decaying corrosive elements also helps to ensure a healthier mouth. Since the corrosive elements have bee removed, they do not have the chance to adversely affect soft tissue inside of the mouth and they also cannot negatively impact the teeth by settling on them.

This can help to ensure that there are fewer cavities found, among other things. Many people seeking teeth whitening tips overlook the important role a healthy tongue can play in the discoloration of teeth. Put simply, all of these elements combine to showcase how the equipment is beneficial in every way.

Greater oral health and satisfaction can be had if people are willing to incorporate tongue scrapers into their daily routine. The equipment is simple and easy to use, and makes a big difference right from the first day.

The small investment required to procure a tongue cleaner is well worth it. The health benefits that they can secure for the user make it a great hygiene tool that can supplement any oral health routine in very effective ways. People with ceramic braces and whitening veneers in particular should pay extra attention to the tongue to avoid staining the teeth.

One Saratoga Springs dentist office has noticed such a significant difference in the tooth care and hygiene of their patients who use tongue scrapers that for a while they gave them to every patient that walks through the door as a gift.

Tongue scrapers are a useful dental hygiene item that can ensure fresher breath and better overall health. By removing the dangerous elements that build up on the tongue on a regular basis, such as a yellow coating on tongue and mouth tissue, people can avoid a lot of problems that might be associated with such accumulations.

With the current economic climate that many families are finding themselves in, it can be difficult just to pay the bills from month to month, let alone afford some of the more expensive but equally essential expenses like any type of dental work. The most common type of dental procedure that both children and adults typically have in their lives is to have braces put on. So given the financial constraints on the average citizen, you might be wondering, on average, how much do braces cost? The answer to that depends on a number of different factors, but the most important is whether you have health insurance, and what type you have.

One thing to keep in mind is that most healthcare service providers will have different stances on dental work. The majority will at least cover the basic checkup, but many will not cover too much beyond that. However, if you find that you do happen to have a health care provider that does offer more robust dental coverage, you can expect to pay anywhere between $1500-$2500 for a child or teenager.

However, for an adult, the prices go up substantially due to the fact that unlike children, adult gums, jaw lines, and teeth are not as malleable and often require preemptive dental work before braces can even be considered as an option. This will usually increase the cost of braces for adults by a couple thousand dollars on average, largely depending on who does your work and where you have it done. The average cost of braces also depends on the variety used and the length of treatment.

You also have to take into account what type of braces you’re actually going to want to have put on. Typically, younger people, including children and teenagers, want to avoid the stigma that comes with traditional wire-rimmed braces, so they often want to pursue the more expensive invisible braces as an alternative. This is also an option for young professionals who want to maintain an attractive appearance in a corporate setting. Ceramic braces are harder to see on the teeth than traditional metal braces thanks to their white color. You can also go with what are known as “incognito braces”, which essentially are the traditional wire-rimmed braces that are reduced in size and are placed on the opposite side of the teeth in the inner arc so as to remain indiscreet when someone smiles.

If you are concerned about being able to pay for the cost of cosmetic dentistry whether you have insurance or not, most dentists will be willing to work out a monthly payment plan with you. The economic situation also affects professionals too, and they want to get your business. More dentists and other medical practitioners these days are likely to work out some sort of agreement with you so they can continue to stay in business as well, so take advantage of that.

If you wear dentures and find them to be a bit unstable, then you may want to consider dentures implants. Dentures implants are an alternative to regular dentures. Not every person qualifies to have them; you have to have bone in the lower jaw area that is missing a tooth or teeth as that is where the denture implants are attached. And you will need to let your dentist know about not only your dental history, but also your overall health history, what operations, allergies or chronic conditions you have or have had in the past.

There are a few different kinds of implant dentures. What kind is right for you depend on your individual case history. The first step is to find a dentist that specializes in dental implants dentures, if your dentist does not perform this kind of surgery. If you have a friend or relative who lives in your city who has had dental implant dentures put in and they are happy with the work, ask them what dentist they used and what their recommendations would be.

One thing that you should be aware of before you consider going in for implant retained dentures is that regardless of what kind you get, having a denture implant or implants put in is a time consuming, drawn out process. It takes at least five months to have these done for the lower jaw and seven months to have them done for the upper jaw. It is easier to do them for the lower jaw and that is where people usually have them done, as regular dentures do not hold as well there as they do in the upper jaw. The periods mentioned here are just a minimum; in some cases, it can take longer, even up to a year or more, to have the implants put in. Some people need grafts and other procedures done before they are able to have their dental implants put in.

Having this done is not cheap, either. The price varies a bit depending on what dentist you see and the area where you live. You may naturally want to find a cheap dentist so you can save money, but make sure the dentist you choose has experience in this field as you would not to have problems with your implants later. If you have health insurance then see if this type of surgery would be covered; if so, then see what kind of implants are covered. Some plans will cover certain kinds of implanted supported dentures but not others and this, of course, would probably affect your decision as to what kind of implants you will get.

Once you have done your groundwork and have set the date for the surgery, there are a few things you will need to do to get ready. If you smoke, then you will need to stop, not only on the day before the surgery, but be prepared to forgo smoking for some time if you want the implant surgery to be successful. Smoking and excessive drinking both raise the risk of the surgery failing. In addition, you cannot eat or drink anything at all for at least six hours before the surgery is scheduled.

Try to have a friend come in with you for your surgery, as you will be put under anesthetic and will not be able to drive home afterward. In fact, you will not be able to drive at all for between 12 – 24 hours after the surgery is done, so plan accordingly. If you cannot get a friend or relative to come in with you, then call a taxi beforehand to come to the dentist’s office at the time you expect the implant surgery to be completed.

A baby will have their first teeth emerge around six to nine months of age, although earlier or later development is of no concern. At the first outset of dental eruptions, however, it is important to arraign for a children dentist to monitor and care for a newborn as their baby teeth form. Although each dentist has his or her own opinion about optimal growth and treatment for children’s dental concerns, all agree that the earlier a child can start recording a file with an office, the better their future oral health will be.

A childrens dentist office uses a combination of simple checkups and x ray procedures to ensure that the best oral development of patient’s children is occurring. Most dentists for children can tell about tooth formation by simply feeling the gums about the emerging teeth, but x rays are used as a means of studying precise angles and sizes of baby teeth. Obviously, there are few operations required for baby teeth as they will only fall out over the course of the next decade, but in rare cases, a dentist may recommend a child undergo special options if their tooth formations restrict eating or talking. Discomfort can occur ahead of schedule, but removing baby teeth is a fairly similar process, so a dentist for children will be able to assist with a range of operations to reduce oral pain.

Childrens dentist suggest that most toddlers do not need to brush their teeth as extensively as teenagers and adults, given how much of their diet is not in solid form and how little areas of their mouth have hygiene needs. Usually, a pea sized dab of toothpaste is as much as is required for tooth brushing, which only need be done once a day. Dentists emphasize that getting children accustomed to the regular chore of teeth brushing is important, but more than once a day can cause frustration with the routine.

Around the age of six or seven, the first baby teeth will become loose; most will fall out by age eleven or twelve. At this stage, regular checkups with a dentist for children are essential, as the formation of the new teeth will affect how the entire future of the child’s orthodontic needs. More regular brushing is required, at least after every meal. Children may not be eager about this new regimen, but intake of sugar is highest at this age group and too much candy and soda combined with lackluster hygiene will almost certainly result in cavities or infections. Flossing should also be reinforced, as the amount of bacteria forming food that lodges in between teeth cannot be dislodged with standard brushing or even strong mouthwash. In fact, many dentists claim that their practice sees more cavities occur from not flossing than from poor brushing.

Regular checkups with children’s dentists are important, but by the early teenage years, extensive sessions with orthodontists are also required to ensure that the development of adult teeth and wisdom teeth is not irregular. The fear of most parents is the process (and cost) of braces, but as nearly every child has certain flaws in their teeth formation; braces have become a foregone conclusion for the majority of children. Your children dentist will be able to suggest a quality orthodontic outlet, or may have his or her own practice in addition to their offices.

No matter what age your child is, a proper schedule of dentist appointments and updates is necessary for proper hygiene and development. It is recommended to see a dentist at least twice a year. Family doctors and hospitals can recommend family outlets with good reviews for those interested in finding a new service provider.

The need to possess perfectly straight and inline teeth has driven many people to consulting orthodontists and dentists these days. Most meetings leave the desperate patients with two options, surgery, or braces. Surgery of the mouth is expensive and comes with a wide range of possible complications that may occur, leaving many to resort to the use of braces to achieve the perfect and bright smile they crave. However, once the decision is made to wear braces there are more choices yet to be made, as there are many different kinds of braces available.

Nearly every child or teenager is either wearing or has worn braces as some point in their lives as the practice is becoming increasingly common, but there are also many adults who are choosing to polish up their smile as well. Whether it is a child or an adult, though, there are essentially two options for braces, ceramic or metal. Metal braces are the more traditional method and consist of metal links glued to the teeth with a wire running through. Ceramic braces, on the other hand, are made from many composite materials and are the more common choice for adults as they appear clear and not noticeable on the teeth, unlike traditional metal ones.

Both types have certain pros and cons that need to be weighed before making a decision though. Metal braces are the more traditional method. They are easy to find as any orthodontist or dentist is sure to have them or have a way of which to lead you to them, and the results that are achieved after wearing them are nothing short of amazing. However, the metal brackets and wires that are used to move and straighten the teeth are very visible and greatly obstruct your smile while wearing them. They can also poke, jab, and irritate the gums, cheeks, and lips around them making them rather uncomfortable at times. Last, they must be worn for an extended period, often between one to two years and there is always the risk of breaking off a bracket or bending a wire as well.

Ceramic dental braces, unlike metal ones, do not share nearly as many complications. A ceramic brace can come in many different forms, but the preferred forms are clear ceramic braces. The ceramic brace is perfectly clear and having the ceramic braces on, other than the small and thin arch wire, does not noticeably show in your smile. They can also move your teeth just as quickly and effectively as metal braces while not providing near as much irritation and poking as metal ones do. However, ceramic braces price in at a tad more than metal due to their nearly invisible attributes and the ceramic braces cost should always be a factor in making a decision.

Also, consider your diet and the magnitude of the changes you wish to make in your smile before choosing which method of braces to pick. If you have major tooth positioning problems that you want fixed, metal brackets are the way to go as most ceramic ones, although perfectly capable of moving teeth, are not designed for major movement. In addition, if you smoke or drink black coffee often, metal braces are preferred as well. While ceramics are extremely stain resistant, activities such as smoking and liquids such as coffee can begin to stain the braces over time.

In all, ceramic vs. metal braces is a tough decision. Metal ones are cheaper, will never pose the risk of staining, and can move even the toughest teeth. On the other hand, though, ceramics are invisible, comfortable and can fix minor issues with ease and comfort for a higher price. However, no matter the method you choose, look forward to the day they are removed, as they are sure to reveal a bright and perfectly new smile and a brand new you.

Each year countless Americans find themselves with a chipped, gaping, or discolored smile because of an accident or collision. Aside from the issues of confidence with an unbalanced tooth line, these problems may cause serious inabilities to speak or eat. Cosmetic dentistry bonding options are a way to repair, replace, or recolor a damaged mouth, using surgical or prosthetic procedures to fill in a missing spot, seal a chipped tooth, or whiten a smile to dazzle and impress. Nearly any dentist or orthodontist will have an array of cosmetic options available to their patents, some of which may be relatively inexpensive; some may even be free. If you are interested in cosmetic dentistry, talk it over with your family’s health provider for their capability.

Basic cosmetic operations start by using a resin to mold a copy of a patient’s teeth and gum line. With this model, an orthodontist can either use replica resin to fill in the gaps for a comfortable substitute model or check the dimensions for prosthetic inserts. The resin is then used as a metal frame, so that a metallic set of false teeth or teeth chips are prepared to the exact specifications of the patient’s mouth. This may take as long as half a year given the complexities of oral comfort and the design process. In the meantime, some customers can use plastic dentures implants for everyday use and eating, so that they do not have to suffer through the discomfort of broken or missing teeth.

The cost of cosmetic dentistry operations are considerable — depending on the doctor, the number of teeth, and the length of the operations, a set of prosthetic teeth can cost a few hundred dollars to as much as ten thousand dollars. These staggering costs often keep many patients from seeking the operation — especially as more and more customers find themselves uninsured, or that their insurance will not cover the procedure — and looking instead for free dental implants. Several options for lower costs are available to customers, but sadly, they may involve lesser quality treatment. While some dentists or dental hospitals do take on pro bono cases, they put set limits on the amount of free work done so as not to keep the budget from getting out of control; as the budget rolls over each year, the best time to find the free services is during the start of the year. Not all have the luxury of timing, and as such, customers who cannot find pro bono doctors for their dental needs must look elsewhere.

University hospitals and teaching outlets can provide dental bridges or ceramic braces for limited costs. Rather than charge a licensed doctor for his or her time, these patients are treated by students, so they may not see a doctor except as a supervisor. Some customers are uncomfortable having students analyze or even operate on them, but university facilities are a solution for those looking for lower cost cosmetic dentistry bonding procedures. Some operations are greatly reduced in cost, and others may be entirely free.

If the problem is not broken teeth but discolored teeth, there are home tooth whitening solutions that cost much less than professional procedures. Whitening veneers in strip and gel form use chemical solutions to break down stains and plaque on teeth, resulting in a brighter smile after the course of several days or weeks. Dentists often give teeth whitening tips involving frequent brushing, but most customers find that the convenience of the strips — purchasable at any major grocery store and used during sleep — outweighs starting a new brushing regimen.

Dental Bridges and permanent implants are the two most maintenance-free options for saving a smile. Properly done, both require little upkeep aside from regular brushing and flossing. The advantages of dental bridges vs. implants is a subject of great debate but, rather than going into the pros and cons of these two vastly different procedures, let’s just take a few minutes to discuss exactly what is a dental bridge and how it can benefit you.

A bridge is, as the name implies, a device that spans the gap created by one or more missing teeth by attaching to two healthy teeth on either side of the gap via a bonding system similar to a crown. The difference between dental crowns and bridges is that the bridge is a single unit containing recreations of several teeth rather than just one, as is the case with a crown. The construction of a dental bridge is very similar to that of a crown, consisting of a metal or ceramic base fused to a porcelain veneer, which is molded to resemble the original teeth it is replacing.

The dental bridge cost is similar to the price of a crown for each tooth being replaced, plus the two mounting teeth. For example, if you have a single missing tooth, the cost of a dental bridge procedure will be similar to that of the cost of three crowns. If either support tooth is decayed or otherwise compromised, the dentist may be required to include a root canal to the procedure and build up the tooth with filling material, adding somewhat to the cost. Of course, the ultimate cost of dental bridge procedures vary from area to area and include a wide range of variables, making it nearly impossible to calculate with any degree of accuracy without an office visit and thorough examination.

The procedure for dental bridge work is almost identical to that of a crown and will usually require two visits. During the first visit, the dentist will perform a detailed examination and will probably take a few x-rays of the affected area. After providing some form of numbing agent or anesthetic to eliminate pain, the two mounting teeth will be ground down to points, which will provide the strongest structure and the greatest amount of bonding surface for the bridge attachment. Once the dentist is satisfied that the teeth have been shaped properly, he or she will create an impression of that part of your mouth, which will then be used to create an exact plaster replica of your teeth. The dentist will then construct a temporary, cosmetic bridge while you wait and mount it in place using temporary cement. You will then return home while the plaster cast of your mouth is sent to a lab that specializes in creating the permanent bridge.

On your next visit, the dentist will remove the temporary bridge and thoroughly clean the mounting teeth to remove all of the cement. He or she will then test fit your new permanent bridge and, once satisfied with the fit and color, will attach it with permanent adhesive. After testing your bite and grinding down any high spots, you will be ready for a lifetime of carefree chewing and smiling.

Although certainly a major investment, dental bridge prices have become increasingly affordable as the technology continues to advance and may even be partially or fully covered by your dental insurance. If you have spent so many years embarrassed by your smile that you do not even notice how reflexively your hand moves to cover your mouth when you laugh, dental bridges can be the best investment you will ever make in your own comfort and self-confidence.
